The Chosen Season 6 is premiering in church before it hits your phone

Text card reading: Premiering in church before it hits your phone

The biggest Christian show on the planet usually drops on an app first. This time it's in church.

Since 15 September, churches and Catholic parishes have been able to screen the first episode of The Chosen Season 6 for free, two months before the public release. You can't buy a ticket, download it or livestream it, so the only way to see it is to be in the room. Prime Video gets the season on 15 November with three episodes that day and the rest weekly until 6 December. The finale skips streaming completely and goes to cinemas in spring 2027.

What happens in Episode 1

It picks up right after the arrest in Gethsemane. The disciples are scared and confused, trying to work out what just happened to Jesus and what Judas did, and trying not to fall apart as a group. Nicodemus, meanwhile, goes head to head with the high priest, and the council ends up in chaos. The episode runs 55 minutes.

The whole season covers about 24 hours: the day Jesus dies.

None of the panic is invented for TV. Mark describes that night in seven words:

"And they all forsook him, and fled."

Mark 14:50 (KJV)

These were men who had walked with him for three years, and they ran.

The Nicodemus scene has roots in scripture too. Earlier in John's Gospel he is the one Pharisee who pushes back on the council:

"Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?"

John 7:51 (KJV)

The show takes that same man and puts him in the room on the worst night of all.

Why church first

Creator Dallas Jenkins says the choice is deliberate. "Pastors and priests, the church and parish setting is going to be vital for this season," he told ChurchLeaders. "People are going to have questions."

In Amazon's announcement he went further: "Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the 'why' of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours."

Real talk, he has a point. A lot of us know Good Friday as a list: arrest, trial, cross, tomb. We have heard it so often it barely registers. Watching Peter and John panic in the dark flips the whole script, because they had no idea Sunday was coming. We do.

And Jesus was never the one losing control that night. He had already said so himself:

"No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself."

John 10:18 (KJV)

The disciples ran. He stayed, on purpose, for them and for us.

How to watch

If your church hasn't signed up yet, send your pastor to comeandseefoundation.org/church (parishes use /parish). The Chosen also has early-access pages for the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and the Philippines.

Prime Video carries Season 6 from 15 November in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. If you're in India or anywhere else and need to catch up first, Seasons 1 to 5 are on The Chosen app.

More than 300 million people have watched the show so far. This season, the first place to see it is your church. It's worth going, and worth asking your questions out loud.

Update: The Chosen has since finished filming altogether. The production wrapped on 24 September after eight years and 528 days on set, and that piece also covers how churches in India can still screen Episode 1 before the 15 November streaming date.
